Introducing, Maria's Miracle

January 4, 2013

The family of Maria Barrera are uniting to raise money to help with her battle against liver disease and rhuematoid arthritis.

Maria, or mom as I like to call her, is a lifelong Victorian and the majority of our family lives in Victoria today. Mom had a large family growing up and dropped out of school to help support her siblings. Since then, she has returned obtained her GED, went to college, completing the Medical Assisting Program and earning her certificate in Phlebotomy.

For years my mothers symptoms remained unnoticed. In recent months doctors have diagnosed her with the liver disease, cirrohsis and rheumatoid arthritis. Last month specialists at the Liver Center in Houston, Tx confirmed diagnosis. The battle may be long but the road does not have to be rough.

Mom works in a plant, standing long hours and enduring the pain of her illness. Although the insurance helps there are high costs of traveling, treatments, and medications that are not covered. My mother is an angel on Earth and will give the shirt on her back to a stranger. She has helped every last person we know, even during her sickness, and it is time for us to help her.
