Memorial Day is time to honor sacrifice

Editor, the Advocate:

My favorite part of Memorial Day is giving thanks to God for our great, courageous and fearless soldiers who gave up their lives for our freedom. Also to those who served in the armed forces and were able to return and raise their families - to never forget the sacrifice they endured.

In memory of my father, Cpl. Jacinto P. Ramirez, 1st Army, 440th Anti-Aircraft Artillery (AW) Battalion, WWII D-Day, June 6, 1944 - Omaha Beach, Battle at St. Lo and the Battle of the Bulge. He served June 5, 1942, to Nov. 26, 1945, and after the war with the 862nd Engineer Aviation Battalion and then from Feb. 6, 1946, to March 11, 1947, in helping rebuild war-torn Europe.
