An unknown number of suspected illegal immigrants bailed out of a stolen 2004 Chevrolet crew cab during a pursuit Monday afternoon in DeWitt County.
Chief Deputy John Oglesby said a deputy ran the plates of the vehicle, discovered it was stolen out of Harris County and tried to pull it over.
The short pursuit started at 12:49 p.m. down Friar Road in between Wolf Hollow and Cattle Guard roads in Cuero. It ended at 12:55 p.m. after the driver cut through some brush and fled.
"He couldn't follow them in his Crown Vic and lost them," Oglesby said.
No one was hurt during the incident.
