For some, Valentine’s Day is an opportunity to show one’s love for another.
Others think a “holiday” is not necessary to show affection for their significant other.
Another line of thought is that the greeting card companies, florists and candy retailers perpetuate the myth that gifts must be given on Valentine’s Day to acknowledge being in love.
Psychiatrist John Sharp wrote in Psychology Today, “Valentine's Day is all about romantic love – but what is romance, anyway?
“Romantic love, our present day standard, is an uncommonly satisfying mutual condition involving the heart and mind and body – and possibly involving the soul.”
So as Valentine’s Day approaches, the question must be asked, “What’s love got to do with it?
