Victoria Independent School district students will not participate in the Victoria's Lighted Christmas Parade on Saturday.

"We don't want to put our students in a situation where the weather will make them ill or sick," said Superintendent Robert Jaklich. "It's just not in their best interest."

The parade will continue as scheduled and attendees are urged to bundle up.

However, VISD's decision means at least 22 of the 136 scheduled parade entries will be missing from the lineup.

According to the National Weather Service, the temperature will dip to the mid-30s with a 30 percent chance of drizzle.

"We truly support the parade," Jaklich said. "We will continue to support the parade and are looking forward to next year."

The parade starts at 6 p.m. at DeLeon Plaza.
