Editor, the Advocate:
The front page article in your paper Sept. 27, "Too Much Debt," was, in my opinion, way overdue.
In my opinion too much debt has been, and will continue to be, the ruination of many, whether it is household debt or too much government debt.
In response to Mr. O.C. Garza, whom I respect, I understand that debt is needed to cover major infrastructure construction, but that wasn't the point of Texas Comptroller Susan Combs' assertion.
Her point was voters do not get "objective" pro and con information from local governments before making a decision during local bond elections. What I've seen is the local government undertaking a major marketing campaign to sway the voters to agree with their position.
In conclusion I would like to see objective information in the local paper that "spells out the tax and debt ramifications before voters check yes or no." I would also like to see alternative plans where maybe we can achieve the same results albeit at a lower price. Moreover, keep emotional statements from children, which tug on people's emotions, out of the paper. Finally, I as a voter want to be respected, given the facts only, and certainly not manipulated.
