A Yoakum man was killed Friday in Gonzales County in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 183.

Kenneth Gipson Pate, 48, was in a Ford pickup traveling south on the highway about 10 miles south of Gonzales when he crossed the center lane. Pate's vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer traveling north on the highway about 11:20 p.m., according to Department of Public Safety officials.

Pate was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 Deidra D. Voigt.

The driver of the 18-wheeler, John Paul Franco Jr., 24, of Victoria, was taken to Gonzales Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
