Victoria woman injured in U.S. 87 wreck

A Victoria woman was injured in a two-vehicle wreck on U.S. Highway 87 on Monday.

Pamela Deen McFarland, 43, was traveling south in her Chrysler van on U.S. Highway 87 about 11:45 a.m. when she clipped the left side bumper of a gray Silverado truck going east on Farm-to-Market Road 1686.

Department of Public Safety Trooper Ronald Johnson said the truck's driver, Dellie Ray Laake, 57, of Thomaston, failed to yield the right of way and would be given a citation.

Johnson said Laake refused medical care.

"He said the sun was in his eyes, but he probably thought he could beat her," Johnson said as a wrecker removed the truck, which had extensive damage.

Victoria County Sheriff's Office deputies blocked one southbound lane of traffic as the wreck was cleared, Johnson said.

McFarland, who complained of shoulder pain, was treated at and released from DeTar Hospital Navarro.
