A homeless man sleeping in an abandoned mobile home escaped serious injury Wednesday night when the trailer caught fire.
A passerby called the Victoria Fire Department about 11:20 p.m. and reported seeing fire and smoke underneath a mobile home at 506 E. Warren Ave., Battalion Chief Roger Hempel said Thursday.
"The trailer was supposed to be vacant, but we found a homeless man sleeping inside," Hempel said.
The mid-30s man suffered minor smoke inhalation and was taken to Citizens Medical Center, where he was treated and released, Hempel said.
Firefighters were on scene until 1 a.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
