The Victoria man struck by an 18-wheeler shortly after midnight Thursday was in the intensive care unit at DeTar Hospital Navarro.

Dana Lods, 60, was in critical condition at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, a hospital spokesman said.

He was crossing 4922 Farm-to-Market Road 236 with a bicycle, a Department of Public Safety official said.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was doing the speed limit and tried to avoid Lods, but was not successful.

Victoria Fire Department Emergency Medical Services responded to the call at 12:06 a.m., said Battalion Chief Roger Hempel.
