Texas Department of Public Safety troopers seized 135 pounds of marijuana in a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 77 near Kemper City about 10 a.m. on July 14.
Troopers pulled over a northbound Nissan on suspicion of several traffic violations and noticed signs of criminal activity, according to a news release form the Department of Public Safety.
After gaining consent to search the vehicle, troopers found 64 bundles of marijuana in a false compartment inside the vehicle. The marijuana had a street value of $74,300, according to the news release.
A 49-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man, both of Alice, were arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, a second-degree felony.
They were traveling from Alice to Houston, according to the release.
The two were taken to Victoria County Jail and later released on bond.
