Using online newspaper archives, tips and tricks

We're working on making searching through the Victoria Advocate archives as easy and user-friendly as possible.

We recognize we aren't there yet and we thank you for your feedback on how to make them better.

In the meantime, here are some tips and tricks for searching through the archives.

You can also click here for a full guide on how to submit content for the newspaper and website.

Scroll below to begin.

First, type in the year of the article or edition you are looking for. You can find the archive search in the top right hand corner of the page in a drop down menu.

Because this search is powered by Google, you will receive a lot of different results. Go ahead and just click on the very first link.

This will open an edition and allow you to click, "browse this newspaper" which will take you to more options.

Now you can search by specific date, ex: March 4, 1933, or by year. You will get a horizontal list of the months in that year and below each month, a vertical menu of each day in that month.
