As the cooler breezes usher in fall weather, they also usher in one of the busiest times of year: Fall festival season.

Almost every weekend in October is chock full of festivals all across the area, which feature everything from carnivals and parades to re-enactments and live music. Below, we've listed what you can look forward to as scarf weather descends down upon us once again.

Gonzales Come & Take It Festival

Friday-Sunday in downtown Gonzales

The Come & Take It Festival celebrates the firing of the first shot of the Texas revolution on Oct. 2, 1835, which took place near Gonzales. Events include live music, bingo, a 5k run, canoe races, a parade, carnival, re-enactments, an art show, dancers, a car show and cook-offs. El Campo Prairie Days Festival

Saturday at Alamo Park

The second annual Prairie Days Festival is a free event featuring children's activities, live entertainment, vendor and food booths, and a spaghetti cook-off. Bands lined up to play include the Bart Crow Band, Al Sulak Polka Band, Joel Hernandez and Rudy & Alys and The Electric Cowboys. For more information, go to www.elcampochamber.com.

Cuero Turkeyfest

Oct. 8-10 at the Cuero Municipal Park

Get yer gobble on. Not only does this festival feature the highly anticipated final heat in the Great Gobbler Gallop turkey race to see who gets the title of "Turkey Capital of the World," but it also will have a performance by Robert Earl Keen this year. There's also a carnival, arts and crafts, parade, cook-offs and, of course, a turkey calling contest. For more information, go to www.turkeyfest.org.

Rockport Seafair

Oct. 8-10 at Rockport Harbor

This annual event features live bands, more than 120 vendors, a gumbo cook-off, seafood cooking classes and demonstrations, a carnival, cardboard boat races and a parade. For more information, go to www.rockportseafair.com.

Wharton's Monterey Square Wine & Arts Fair

Oct. 9 in downtown Wharton

Featuring the wines of Messina Hof Winery & Resort from Bryan, Texas, along with live music performances, art displays and selected food vendors.

Bay City Rice Festival

Oct. 14-17 at the Matagorda County Fairgrounds

This long-time annual event put on by the Bay City Lions Club will feature a carnival, a parade, live music, the crowning of a new Rice Festival queen and many other activities. For more information, go to www.baycitylions.com.

Yorktown's WesternDays-Ziegfest

Oct. 15-17 at Yorktown City Park
