STAFFORD - Bay City boxer Terrance Woods has no problem following his trainer's instructions.
Mike Zavala told Woods to go after his opponent after the first round of their 175-pound bout on Thursday night at the Stafford Centre.
Woods responded by knocking out Brandon Singleton of Dallas just seconds into the second round of the scheduled four-round fight.
"He started putting the pressure on at the end of the first round," Zavala said. "I told him to go right out in the second round and get on him."
Woods hit Singleton with his right hand before dropping him with a left hook to keep his perfect record intact.
"It was that first combo," Zavala said. "That's what it took."
Woods has won all seven of his professional fights, five coming via knockout.
Bay City's Dushaun Williams came up short in his professional debut, dropping a decision to Ivan Castaneda of Mexico.
Williams moved up from 140 to 146 pounds for the bout and couldn't overcome the difference in weight and experience.
"He fought a war," Zavala said. "He hung in there and hurt the guy. It was a good learning experience for him."
Zavala plans to meet with promoters before deciding when Woods will fight again.
