The 25th Annual Conference for Catechesis and Ministry, to be held Saturday, Sept. 29, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Victoria and will feature topics celebrating Pope Benedict XVI’s declaration of the “Year of Faith; the 50th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council; and the 20th anniversary of The Catechism of the Catholic Church.
Gerald DuPont, M.A. D.Min, director of the Office of Permanent Diaconate for the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston and professor of Sacred Scripture and Pastoral Theology for the University of St. Thomas School of Theology in Houston, will offer the keynote address, “Year of Faith and the New Evangelization”.
Fanny C. Pedraza, D.Min., will also present her keynote address on the same topic in Spanish. She is the national consultant of catechesis for Hispanics for the RCL Benziger publication; instructor in the Institute of Pastoral Initiatives at the University of Dayton (in Ohio); and directs a committee of Grants of A.M.I.G.A., a non-profit organization which gives grants to low-income Hispanics who want to attend the university.
Other conference workshops include: Vatican II: 50 Years of Renewal in the Church; A Walk Through the Constitution on Sacred Liturgy; Constitution on Divine Revelation; Faithful Citizenship; Dogmatic Constitution of the Church; Theology of the Body for Middle School ages; The Catechism of the Catholic Church; Stewardship of the Earth; Bible 101; Prayer and the Saints; First Penance and First Communion – What’s It All About?; An Agent of Evangelization; Scripture in the Classroom; Ignatian Spirituality; and many, many more.

Holy Family Catholic Church is located at 704 Mallette Drive in Victoria. Exhibits open at 7:30 a.m. and welcome and opening prayer begin at 9 a.m. Otto Bleier and the Knights of Columbus Council No. 9088 will cook breakfast and lunch for conference attendees to purchase. The conference will conclude with the Most Reverend David E. Fellhauer celebrating the Sunday Liturgy at 4:15 p.m.
